ESRA ROISE FOR STATEMENT - A VISION OF THE STATEMENT WOMAN

It was in Norway that STATEMENT founder Amélie Huynh crossed paths with artist Esra Roise and discovered her artistic world. Esra is a freelance illustrator based in Oslo, who draws her inspiration from rural Norway, where she grew up with her family. Since childhood, her love of drawing has guided her towards an artistic career, turning a passion into a profession.

Using mainly pencil for its precision, as well as watercolour and ink for their fluidity, Esra skilfully merges analogue and digital media in her creations. Whether through portraits, botanical works or still lifes, she seeks to evoke captivating emotions.

Seduced by Esra's style, Amélie entrusted her with the mission of representing the STATEMENT woman: free, independent, creative and intuitive. Her creations, worn like talismans, become an extension of herself, expressing her personality and inner strength, embodying assertiveness and elegance.

Can you tell us about a defining moment in your life?

"For much of my teenage and young adult life, I worked in a skateboard shop that I loved. It was my longest job, and I could easily have stayed there. At the time, I drew mainly as a hobby, but as I received more and more illustration requests, I really wanted to try and see if I could fulfil my dream and work full-time as an illustrator. Leaving my job and the comfort of a stable job and salary to enter the freelance life was one of the scariest things I've ever done, but although it was difficult at times, I've never regretted it. Drawing and creating is still my dream job and I feel very privileged to be able to make a living doing what I love best and to be in contact with so many creative souls around the world through my work."

"Allowing myself to fulfil my dream of working full-time as a designer was one of the scariest things I've ever done... but I've never regretted it."

Which STATEMENT creation is your favorite?

Over the course of this collaboration, I've been able to discover pieces I'd never seen before, and of course the list of my favourites has grown! The Rockaway pinky ring particularly appealed to me, with its architectural shape and weight. My style mixes masculine and feminine pieces, and this massive ring can be worn on its own or with other jewellery. The perfect piece, whether paired with other rings or a vintage men's watch. I also like the Unchained sterling silver necklace, a perfect balance of delicacy and strength.
